Areas of support

Support for the things that matter in everyday life.

Cognisance brings psychology and occupational therapy together to support people with pain, mood, memory, cognition, neurodiversity and daily routines.

Pain

When pain is taking up too much of life.

Living with persistent pain can affect movement, sleep, mood, concentration, work, relationships and the things you enjoy.

At Cognisance, we can explore how pain is influenced by the brain and nervous system, alongside the thoughts, emotions and experiences that can affect how you experience pain.

Psychological approaches can help change the way you respond to pain and, for some people, help reduce the intensity or distress of the pain experience. This may include gently exploring fear around pain, building a greater sense of safety with movement and activity, and developing different ways of responding when pain appears.

Occupational therapy brings this into everyday life, helping you gradually reconnect with activities, routines and the things that matter to you.

The approach is shaped around you, what you are experiencing and what matters to you in everyday life.

Mood & emotional wellbeing

If you are feeling anxious, low or stressed, or your confidence has been affected by a change in life, psychological therapy can help you understand what you are experiencing and explore approaches that may help.

When your mood starts to affect everyday life, occupational therapy can help you look at routines, activities and practical changes that may make day-to-day life more manageable. We work together at a pace that feels right for you.

Memory & cognition

Changes in memory, concentration, processing or confidence can have a significant impact on everyday life. Cognisance offers assessment and practical strategies to support thinking, memory and independence.

We can look together at the tasks you would like help with and explore ways to organise activities and routines, or make adjustments that help day to day. The focus is on what you are experiencing and what would help you feel more confident and independent.

Neurodiversity support

We use a neurodiversity-affirmative approach, which means starting with you as an individual rather than trying to make you fit a particular way of doing things.

If you are autistic, have ADHD or identify as neurodivergent, we can explore what works well for you, what can feel more demanding and what might help everyday life feel more manageable. This might include sensory needs, attention and organisation, communication, routines, emotional wellbeing, confidence, relationships, work, study or home life. We can also support parents, partners or family members to better understand a neurodivergent person and think about supportive ways of responding. The aim is not to change who you are. It is to help you understand yourself better, recognise your strengths and needs, and find practical ways of making everyday life work better for you. This support is not a formal ADHD diagnostic assessment.

Confidence & routine

When confidence has been affected by illness, pain, stress or change, ordinary routines can feel harder to maintain. We can help you find manageable ways to rebuild a sense of structure and feel more confident about the things you want to do.

Occupational therapy looks at the activities and roles that make up your day. Alongside this, psychology gives us space to explore how you are feeling and what may be affecting your confidence and motivation.

A shared approach

You do not need to have everything worked out.

We can start with what you would like help with and what you would like to do more easily in everyday life. From there, we can find an approach that works for you.

Across these areas, occupational therapy offers personalised support to improve daily functioning, independence and quality of life. Psychology can help you explore the thoughts, feelings and experiences that may be part of the picture.
